In the class intro methods to bookbinding, sustainable bookbinder elizabeth winkelhoff, will be teaching saddle stitch and stab stitch binding. If you’re someone that has some extra thread and paper lying around, sewing zines + books can be a craft to reduce waste with a low barrier to entry.
In this workshop she will teach saddle stitch binding (the method used for programs for plays
and in composition notebooks), and stab stitch binding (a historically Japanese form of binding
that allows separate pieces of paper to be bound into a book).

class 02: coptic stitch 101
In the class coptic stitch 101, sustainable bookbinder elizabeth winkelhoff, will be teaching coptic stitch binding, using reclaimed and recycled materials. Participants will leave with a one-of-a-kind book and enough of a basis in coptic stitch binding that they can use the method for more books in the future.

class 03: collage bookbinding
In the class collage bookbinding, sustainable bookbinder elizabeth winkelhoff, builds on what participants have learned in “intro methods to bookbinding”. This class is also great for beginners, too! Participants will learn (or grow their skills in) saddle stitch and stab stitch binding, and then will be given materials and guidance to make their books into collaged works of art! Attendees are also encouraged prior to the class start to bring their own collage material they want to work with, to make it a more customized experience.

class 04: at-home papermaking
For the class at-home papermaking, elizabeth will teach a method of papermaking that allows participants to take old or used pieces of paper, break them down, and create new pages. Pages can be decorated with the following inclusions: paint, confetti, and native wildflower seeds. Participants are encouraged to bring their own decorative options!
Participants will learn about papermaking as a sustainable practice, pull their own pages, and bring them home wet—the instructor will explain how to keep them safe while they dry.
